Charmingly anachronistic

An anachronism is something that is chronologically out of place or time, in the sense that it belongs to a former age that is incongruous with the present.

Here at the Coffee Trade Company, we don't mind being regarded as an anachronism. Actually, the way we approach things is somewhat old-fashioned and harkens back to bygone days of "roll-up-your-sleeves" hard work and ingenuity. After all, it was that same ingenuity and self-determination that fueled the production of coffee alternatives when the real thing was in short supply, too costly, or unavailable.

In many ways, though, Ersatz is quite contemporary and fills a growing need. The well-known coffee substitutes of yesteryear are no longer being produced.

We aim to fill that void, which is where our ingenuity and self-determination come into the picture. Countless hours of experimentation and trial and error and painstaking record keeping have yielded a satisfying alternative.

Ersatz is for those whose lifestyle, dietary, or religious preferences require an alternative to coffee.

We are a small company and do many things manually, including roasting our ingredients in smaller quantities and packaging the product by hand. The result is something we think you'll enjoy and appreciate. Order Ersatz today.

Other anachronisms

HourglassThe hourglass has been replaced by a wide variety of mechanical and electronic timing devices. Variations are still in use today for decorative purposes and as timers in board games and in kitchens.

AbacusThe abacus is an ancient "calculator" of sorts, often used in business and commerce. Abacuses are still used in less developed parts of Africa, the Mideast, and the Orient.

Telegraph KeyThe telegraph was the forerunner of modern electronic communication. It played an important part in the development of the American west and transatlantic communication. It remains in use among hobbyists. The telegraph uses a special alphabet called Morse Code.
